Dom Pérignon is only declared in vintages the cellar masters consider strong enough to age. 2017 was a difficult year in Champagne — early frost, summer storms, complex harvest conditions — and the release was framed by Dom Pérignon as a wine of "tenacity", with the assemblage reflecting that.
The cuvée is a roughly balanced assemblage of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from grand cru sites across the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. The first plénitude (P1) is released after at least seven years on lees; subsequent plénitudes (P2, P3) come from the same vintage after longer ageing.
