Place in the range
Vranken is the Champagne brand at the heart of the Vranken-Pommery Monopole group, which also owns Pommery, Heidsieck & Co Monopole and Charles Lafitte. As a stand-alone label, Vranken is positioned for high-volume international markets — the diffusion arm of the group, beneath the more historic Pommery brand in the portfolio hierarchy.
History
The group was founded in 1976 by Belgian-born Paul-François Vranken, who started by sourcing finished wines from Champagne producers and built the operation up by acquisition. Pommery was bought from LVMH in 2002, Heidsieck & Co Monopole and Charles Lafitte at other points along the way. The Vranken-Pommery Monopole group is one of the few large, family-controlled Champagne houses outside the LVMH and Pernod Ricard portfolios; the Vranken brand itself remains a volume-oriented label rather than a prestige one.
