Style
Salon produces a single cuvée: a vintage Blanc de Blancs sourced exclusively from Chardonnay grown in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the grand cru village at the heart of the Côte des Blancs. The wines are tight, mineral and extraordinarily long-ageing, built for decades rather than years on release. Salon declares only the vintages it considers exceptional — most decades see four or five releases at most, with the rest of the harvest declassified into sister-house Delamotte.
History
Salon was founded in 1921 by Aimé Salon, a French entrepreneur who established the house's single-village, single-grape, single-vintage philosophy. Salon and its sister maison Delamotte are now owned by the Laurent-Perrier group, which acquired both houses in the late 1980s. Salon retains its distinctive production model and remains one of the smallest declared champagne maisons.
